set all IDE devices to C/SEL and connect HDD to the end of the primary channels IDE cable, then connect CD to any IDE connector, and 4 pin molex connector (power) then enter the BIOS and auto detect HDD's the save to CMOS and exit, now everything should be ok
hi, the ide cables i am using do not have two ide connections.they are both simple ide cables with one connection to the motherboard and one connection to the hard drive. Then a seperate ide cable attatches the cd rom drive to the motherboard.does this mean they are both set as master. All help appreciated .. regards, james
not nesisarily, each 1 could be set to master, slave or C/SEL you need to check the location of the small jumper (probably next to the IDE connector) then look for a label or diagram on the HDD, the CD drive will either have a label or have a letter stamped into the metal next to the jumper M = Master S = Slave CS = C/SEL put the jumper in the correct position, taking care to notice the orientation (usually part of IDE connector is visible on label)
