Hi couple of things niggling me.................. How can i auto organise my favorites,so when i add something it goes in the right place alphabetically ? Also I have windows ME and have insatlled tune up works fine except if i run 1 click then i get an error message ..EXTERNAL EXCEPTION......C 0000001D Cant install windows defender asume its not capable..is there a free spyware i can install ? And finaly is windows ME the same as windows 2000 ? if anyone can help me would appreciate you advise ROY
Windows defender is for XP and server 2003 only, so it wont work on Windows Me. If you want to get round spyware try using firefox web browser, Spybot and Ad-aware. They are all free. I personally use a free firewall and antivirus too.... AVG and Zone Alarm. They all work really well. And no, Windows 2000 is very different to Windows Me. Windows 2000 is based on Windows NT (like Windows XP is) which is far more secure and stable. If you have the option of installing Windows 2000 over Windows Me id defiantly spend the time upgrading.
Thank i installed windows Me cos it a crap PC 128 ram I put XP but it woudnt run on it...........would 2000 do you think ?
2000 would probably run better on that machine better than XP, but either way performance isn't going to be great unless you get some more RAM.
No i appreciate that it not my main PC ....Im just trying to get it up and running best i can.........as a give away maybe a friends child etc that would appreciate it.
Here are the requirements for Windows Me MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR WINDOWS ME and Windows 2000 Windows 2000 Hardware Requirements The RAM and HDD space is the big difference.
How about we kill two birds with one stone? Install Opera and not only will your favourites get organised alphabetically, but you'll be using a more secure browser Try re-installing the program. I am not 100% sure what the problem is, other then to say that Windows ME sucks Windows Defender sucks. You aren't missing out. Lavasoft's Adaware is a better choice. LOL
No, Windows ME is based on DOS. Windows 2000 is actually NT 5.0, a totally different platform, although all versions of Windows look pretty similar. Also, the support for Millennium Edition ended this summer, so Microsoft is no longer providing critical security patches for ME. In other words, time to get a new OS. You can either buy a copy of XP, or many of us would recommend dipping a toe in the world of free, open source software (see here).
