    Gaming Laptop

My brother has just bought a normal laptop, but uses it for gaming. On the same site, there were gaming laptops advertised with the same spec, but for a higher price! The laptop is: Intel 2.0Ghz dual core (not sure which) 2gb DDR2 RAM 320GB HDD nVidia 9600M Graphics chip 15.4" screen...

    Fast Food in the UK?

Yeah we have a few, mainly curry take-aways :D I think the nearest McDonalds / Burger King / KFC is about 7 miles away! My first choice for take-away fast-food stuff is Greggs bakers to get a sausage roll or pasty. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

    A Desktop Processor Peak?

Your post reminded me of that :D I think computers will become increasingly faster, although maybe not be increasing processor speeds. I'm not really sure to be honest, I don't think we can really say what will happen in the future!

Soundmax Digital Audio soundcard quiet as a mouse

If you find a solution, let me know please!! I'm having a very similar problem with a SoundMAX chip, but instead the microphone is very quiet even though everything appears to be set on max.

    Microphone very quiet.

Yes, it gets even worse if we switch it off! Thanks!

    Microphone very quiet.

Yes we tried 2 microphones on his, and both were quiet. I tried one of them on my laptop and it was as load as we expected (much better than on his). I didn't re-install everything, but my Granddad says he's done that already :( I've been researching some low-end sound cards, and in their...

    Microphone very quiet.

Hi, On my Granddads PC, the microphone input is very quiet using any microphone, on either front or back input sockets. I am 99% certain that it is not a software related problem, as I've been through every setting and option that I can see, although I am going to try removing and...

What is U3? How does it work?

I have a U3, and when I got it, I looked at the software, and decided it wasn't worth having, so I used a special utility to totally format the pen and now it just works as a generic USB pen. I can't remember what the software did though, I think it was encryption and password tools and alike.

Samsung Tocco - what is this icon?

A picture would be easier! My first guess would be the alarm! Check it's not enabled!

    Windows 7 Beta 1 (build 7000) screenshots

Ok good point... It feels ancient because 2 of my best friends have just got new laptops, the best with a 2.26Ghz Dual core Intel processor, 4gb of RAM and an nVidia 9600M graphics chip. When you sit the laptops side by side, mine looks and feels ancient. ;) Oh and my brother has just ordered a...

    Windows 7 Beta 1 (build 7000) screenshots

I'm just running W7 on my ancient laptop now! Specs: AMD Turion 2.0GHz MK-36 (Single core) 2GB (2 x 1gb) RAM 60 GB HDD (XP on 30gb partition and W7 on remainder) ATi Radeon Xpress 1100 (same as X200 I believe) 802.11g WiFi Everything works, with no need for any driver installation...

    Windows 7 Beta 1 (build 7000) screenshots

Hmmmm I'm not sure whether it was as fast as XP as not. It booted up about the same speed as my 1 year old XP SP3 install does. I tried NFS Undercover just after I'd installed, and it seemed just a bit slower than on XP. But then I realised I've not installed any drivers yet - it might...

    Windows 7 Beta 1 (build 7000) screenshots

Well I've just installed Windows 7 (public BETA build 7000). It seems better than Vista did (during the brief period which I tried it). My only gripes are: 1) I don't like the stupid start menu. I'm used to the old one! 2) The quicklaunch bar should be able to be kept seperate from open...

    Michigan is Dying

Focused strategy could rescue Limerick from Dell collapse - The Irish Times - Fri, Jan 09, 2009 This means my step-mum (who lives in Limerick with my Dad) will most likely be about of a job, as the company she works for mainly creates recovery disks for Dell. Not good!!

    DIY Wireless Network

Thanks for pointing out the mistake! I get bits and bytes muddled easily for some reason! And I'll add it to my list of current projects: 1) Control the mouse using a torch shone at a wall through the video camera 2) Convert a live stream of video into ASCII in real time 3) Send data via...

    DVD's not working on computer

I'd suggest checking that your DVD drive is set to the correct region. I can't remember how to do that though... :(

    DIY Wireless Network

Well this afternoon I was bored, and thought I'd try to create my own "wireless network" using C#. And it worked! Basically, on one PC you select some data to transfer. It then converts it to binary, and has a grid of squares. The grid flashes black or white, for 1's or 0's. On the receiving...

    DVD's not working on computer

See if the DVDs will play using VLC Media player. If they do, then your DVD drive is fine. If not, then it's most likely a fault with your DVD drive.
