You can choose to start steam in Offline mode and play single playa through that..but it still sucks a fat one.

try holding M while you boot...I think that might work.. I can never remember it. I usually just turn of the power off while the windows black...
that won't work too well because the lights that light up the keyboard require power. The batteries would be drained in no time.
