there is a very easy solution for dis.. u dont have to open up ur notebook's case or go too technical..i had the same problem... finally i got it...
there is a software called Bad copy pro....tat mite help u out....
If u feel tat ur CPU cooler is making some nois or something like tat y dont u try changing ur cpu cooler??and after closing ur case's side shield...

remmber.. vista uses a new Boot loader called BCD(Boot Configuration Data)... unlike XP its not easy to configure..and i guess u have Vista's boot...
finally i got the solution..I tried disabling RAID in tat particular hard disk..but then windows was not able to find the drive during setup... i...
cud u pls explain how to disable RAID mode?? there i sno option in BIOS to disable it..

i am using ASUS P5RD1-vM mobo and 250gb SATA... i am pretty sure its detected as RAID controller..i am able to install windows vista very well...

If its not a mobo problem.. then chk out ur cabinets power switch cable... if the cable is damaged or something like tat, chances for mobo to get...

i had the same problem with my 40gb fireball2 maxtor drive.. the drive is getting detected fine in BIOS but wen i go to windows there r no drives...
