I actually managed to get Ubuntu 8.04 to connect flawlessly to my work's Active Directory today using a guide on the Ubuntu wiki. I am suprised that I could do it in Ubuntu so easily but not using the "enterprise ready" Redhat distribution... though that's probably due to using bad HOWTOs...

Those five options in the boot menu are probably older Ubuntu kernels. Ubuntu gets an kernel upgrade every so often and when that happens, a new entry appears in the boot menu. You can delete the older kernels if you don't need them

The issues I have when running Compiz is that the performance of Flash is terrible. Full screen mode is a no-no. Some games still have issues with Compiz too.
