My OS's aren't getting along!

Ok, been running xp pro on my system for some time now, recently i decided to give ubuntu some space to play with. The hdd size is 250Gb. I decided to give linux 80Gb, as soon as ubuntu 7.10 was installed i upgraded it to 8.04. Now i know some people have been complaining that hardy is slow and crashy and glitchy etc etc. But since this upgrade there has been nothing but trouble for my xp partition.
Firefox was acting weirde, my external hard-drive had a mind of its own. And instead of 2 choices in the dual boot menu, i have 5, i dont know where the other 3 came from but its very untidy looking.

I was considering just wiping the whole thing clean and just putting on ubuntu but i miss games, lol. I would go and refresh my xp install but i dont know how to format the entire disk, wiping out all partitions. Ubuntu had it clear on partitions etc in its installation process but what about windows?

You need Partition Magic,Then delete all Linux Partitions and either make new partitions or just make one..

you masochist, do you like losing data ghostman, personally i'd recommend Acronis Disk Director

a lot of people on HWF have lost data thanks to Partition Magic, it did used to be ok up until about version 4 when Symantec bought Powerquest & re-engineered the software as Symantec always do, they think they know best & i for 1 know otherwise, i've even seen Symantec referred to as evil somewhere on the net

Edit: or use gparted in linux
 
Those five options in the boot menu are probably older Ubuntu kernels. Ubuntu gets an kernel upgrade every so often and when that happens, a new entry appears in the boot menu. You can delete the older kernels if you don't need them

Thanks for the sound advice, though i think i will try the linux software, its more comfortable setting i think.

Yea, the kernel version runs into something like 2.x.x.xx, the last 2 digits are always different for each option.

How would i delete the remaining options?

just use your package manager like Adept or Synaptic and scroll to linux-image-2.xx.xx.x and remove all kernel images not being currently used

I never had ANY problem using Partition Magic, I Guess I just Know How to USE IT...Of course you can mess things up with it , IF you don't know What the
HELL you are doing...But then again, that goes for Everything..

well thats true, but, Acronis DD has the ability to create an OS independent bootable CD, so, windoze has nothing to do with the partitioning, the way it should be[ot]BTW: if you haven't guessed, i don't like or use windoze[/ot]
