A question regarding processor upgrades.

Hello,

I am planning to upgrade my outdated 3.2 P4 processor since it is the oldest component in my pc. It is running on an ASUS P5GD2-X LGA775 socket m/b.

The question I have is whether I will be able to upgrade to a 775 dual core pentium or is there a restriction to old non-dual-core P4 LGA775 chips.

I checked my m/b’s website and there is no mention whether my m/b won’t be able to receive a dual core processor.

I am confused, are all 775 processors compatible with 775 sockets or there is a restriction on what you can and cannot install.

No, your motherboard has to support dual core processors.

What dual core are you looking at? There are core 2 duo and also the netburst dual cores.

If fact ive just had a quick look at the motherboard webpage and it says it supports the netburst dual cores.

Download the manual to check that the particular CPU you are looking at is supported… these are the sort of ones you should be looking at.
