SONY BDU-X10S SATA BLU-RAY INTERNAL PC DRIVE
I bought the above off of eBay. I’ve got a hard drive on SATA 1, so I put the BD on SATA 2. There’s a DVD burner as master on EIDE.
During boot, the hard drive is detected quickly as usual, but the system hesitates as it examines SATA 2. A message flashes I can’t read, then Windows starts. No BD-ROM shows up in Windows.
When I go into BIOS set-up, it isn’t detected there either.
Did I buy a bad mech?

I have exactly the same problem.
the bios does not detect the BDU-x10s. (i connected the BD-rom to the mother board, put “raid” off, and put Serial ATA)
My mother board is an Asus P4P800-E deluxe. (i did not connected the BD-rom to the promise connector)
there is no firmware update to correct that bug.
I bought it new then, I will give the unit back to the store.

I found this review of that drive on Amazon:
The Sony BDUX10S Blu-Ray drive was intermittently recognized by my system. Sometimes I would have to boot the PC two or three times before the BIOS would recognize the drive. Sometimes it would cause the PC to hang and not boot into Windows at all.
I tried the drive in a second PC, and had the exact same experience. Was it a defective drive or a design problem? I don’t know, but I returned the drive for a refund (no exchanges were permitted). I am going to try a Pioneer BD drive next.
If you bought the drive at a store and have this problem, it’s best to return it and get a different drive.
But if you got it from eBay, it might not be possible to get a refund. (I don’t have any experience with eBay, so I’m not sure if it’s possible to get a refund for defective products).

Before going back to my store, I had the idea to change the serial red wire. And miracle, the BDU-x10s was detected by the bios. The “new” red serial wire had a malfunction…now everything is ok. maybe my Bd-rom was not completly new… thanks Rochstenbach for your help

My mechanism came from eBay. I bought it before I bought anything else for the new computer, so I gave the guy good feedback before I knew I’d been sold a lemon. I tried a new SATA cable, but that didn’t help.
I’ll test it on another motherboard, once I can scrape together the cash for its processor. If it still won’t be seen, I’ll contact Sony support and see if they’ll help me. I can’t say I expect them to, but you never know.
