Esata through pci card = fast?

Hi guys I just bought a seagate external 1tb harddrive with Esata.
Only problem is I don’t have esata going out of my mobo (Intel d865GBF old one I know…).

I only have 2 sata-II connectors on my mobo which are currently occupied by 2 internal hard disks.

I heard of a pci card that has Esata connectors.
Will this reduce transfer rates of the Esata?

I don’t think you will notice any difference to be honest, unless you plan to edit videos etc. (PCI is limited at 133MB/s, SATA is 150MB/s).

Regardless of the SATA version you have (1 or 2) you will be stuck at 133MB/s. If you want to achieve those speeds you will need to get a PCI-X Sata Card.

but if I have an old motherboard that only supports pci (not even express) will it still support pci-x?

nope, it will not support PCI-X cards.
