External USB Caddies?

Hi,

Does anyone know if programs can be run from a USB Caddie Drive. It uses a standard HDD and plugs into USB 2?

If so is there loss in speed etc?

Thanks

Yes. The physical location of a drive doesn’t matter. Now, you’ll only be able to run the apps installed on the drive when it’s plugged in, of course. USB2.0 transfer speeds aren’t quite at the same level as internal ATA drives. Video playback would be fine, but some disk hammering scenario like a high-end game or video editing would be less than ideal on the external USB drive.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. When you say high end games would games like World Of Warcraft struggle?

Thanks again

Joe

I dont know WOW but I used to play WarcraftIII from USB Hard Drive and it was working fine for me.

If it’s a game/app that hits the disk heavily, everything else being equal—the amount of RAM in particular—you’re going to have a greater delay with the external USB drive vs that same drive connected to the motherboard.

Ahh thanks Big B that has helped alot

Thankyou!
