I have a winfast a350 - fx 5900 ultra tdh card and have just bought a new computer to put it in. The new PC has a motherboard that specifies no 3.3v agp video cards (didnt know this when i purchased!). The computers powers down regularly after a few mins so now I’m guessing my video card is 3.3v? Cant find any info on the card or get a response from leadtech (manufacturer). Anyone help??
Thanks for the replies. Here are the rest of my details. Apart from the video card all I have is a single HD and CD player. The parts are fairly cheap.
GP-400ATX 12V p4 400W power supply
ASROCK K8Upgrade - 760GX motherboard
AMD SEMPRON 3100+ cpu
Temps: taken after shutdown:
CPU TEMP: 34 C
MB TEMP 29 C
The unit does stay on for a while sometimes but powers down pretty quickly if I run anything that uses the video card (games). A test today had the unit powering down after about 2 mins with a game running. I removed the card (and used the on-board video) and the unit did not shut down at all - left running for about an hour.
update: just powered down again while running a game (with FX 5900). Same story (2 mins) - CPU temp now reads 37.
One thing I noticed however was that running the game caused a change in the powersupply noise. It got slightly louder. Maybe too much being sucked from the power supply???
I’ve got a good feeling thats it your PSU. I had a similar problem and replaced the PSU and it was fine. Using onboard video doesn’t use as much power as a normal card so that would explain. When the PSU is being pushed, it usually shuts down like that.
Edit: put cPU intead of PSU.
u said when u play games the power supply unit starts to sound louder, therefore i also agree with Addis that it might well be a PSU problem..try to test using a different PSU…
