I’m having trouble with high latency during audio playback, and because of that, the sound pops. I ran LatencyMon and DPC Latency Checker during audio playback to see, what is causing the problem. You can see in the images below.
I’ve installed the latest updates for all hardware.
I never had this problem with the other motherboar (also Gigabyte, diffrent model) before. I hope you guys can help me.
My system specs are:
Windows 7 Ultimate Editon (64-bit) Service Pack 1 (build 7601)
RAM - 4GB DDR3
CPU - Intel(R) Core™2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33GHz
Sound Card - VIA High Definition Audio
ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series
Network Adapters - Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)
DVD Drive - Optiarc DVD RW AD-7201S
Motherboard - Gigabyte G41MT-S2
Did you recently change motherboards? If so, did you do a clean install of win7 or not? If you didnt, there could be drivers left over from the other system board still on the computer causing a conflict. Also, did you get your audio driver from gigabyte or did you try one from Via’s website? If you tried the gigabyte one, try downloading one from Via’s website instead to see if that makes a difference. 威盛電子
Be sure that you uninstall the previous driver before you try a new one.
I did recently change motherboard and I did a clean win7 install. First, I installed drivers from gigabyte CD; the sound was poping. Then I uninstalled them and installed latest driver from the www.via.com; the poping was still there. And then I also tried to disable this VIA sound card in BIOS, and inserted a Genius Sound Maker Value 5.1 sound card into the free slot on my MB and installed the latest drivers…and guess what? There was popoing again…
I did some reading and it looks like wireless devices and other electronic equipment can all cause interference in speakers. If you have any electronics near the computer, try turning them off or moving them 10 feet away to see if that helps. If you have a cell phone or pager, turn them off and test to see if the noise persists. Also, some people have had trouble with routers and cable modems sitting to close to the pc causing popping noise in speakers. Move them away too if you can and test. Also, does the noise happen even when you are no playing music? Do you have an old pair of speakers you could test with to see if maybe its the speakers themselves causing the problem. Another thing you can try is, if you think something on the HD is causing latency, try booting to safe mode and then see if you can play the audio. Safe mode loads minimal services and drivers so if it works ok in safemode, chances are its some piece of software causing the problem. To boot to safe mode, when you turn on the pc, keep tapping f8 and it should bring you to a screen where you can choose to boot normally or boot to safe mode, safe mode with networking, etc. Choose safe mode and then test it to see if that helps.
Yes, I have router behind my screen, but how come, that this problem didn’t occured when I had my previous MB (Gigabyte GA-EP43-S3L) ? This popping is only when I play music from the hard drive or form the internet, or when I watch movies. I also know for sure, that my speakers aren’t the problem, because they are very good studio monitors (Tapco S8). The speakers are hooked up with Suntec M105 mixer, but I don’t think that could interfere somehow with the sound, since I’ve tried to connect the mixer with my mobile phone and play music from it, and there was no popping at all. And just to make sure, I’ve also tried to connect it with my laptop, and yet again there was no popping; just nice and clean sound…
I’ll try with safe mode now.
Ok, I ran windows in safe mode. I wanted to try the audio, but I could’t to do so, because apperantly audio is disabled in safe mode. What I was able to do, was to ran Latency Mon, and there was no sign of high DPC count. Actualy, the strange thing that I noticed was, that under the Drivers tab, there was nothing listed…After rebooting windows in normal mode, I ran LatencyMon again, and there was NO latency between the drivers; as shown in the images below… Why? I don’t get it…
