How to get my sound from my Laptop to my new LCD TV. Sony KDL-32V4000

Hi I have just bought a new LCD Sony KDL-32V4000 and connected my laptop to it which works fantastic. I was told by PC world to get a HDMI cable or something like that.

Sorry as I am new to this and have never done this before. Please can somebody help to advise which cable I need and also where I put it in . i. e. from pc to which port in the tv.

Thank you for your time

unless the laptop has “HDMI out” you won’t get sound, instead you would just need to connect the speakers to the line-out/optical output on the laptop for sound.

which laptop is it.

hi thanks for the quick reply. I dont know if my laptop does have HDMI but only headphone socket. My laptop is Dell Inspiron 6400. Could I ask you to google that if it has HDMI please.

it doesn’t, your only option is to use the headphone socket.

Hi again. Thanks for finding this out for me. I intend to order this cable via Amazon or Ebay. Do you know the name for this wire at all I should search for and buy

Hi

you need one of these 1 x Male 3.5mm plug to 2 x Female 3.5mm socket, available from 2x RCA Phono Female to 1x 3.5mm Male Jack Audio Cable: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo and 3.5mm GOLD PLATED Stereo Jack Headphone Splitter Cable on eBay, also Corded, Headphones, Accessories, Consumer Electronics (end time 13-Feb-09 22:00:00 GMT)

I would suggest getting a external sound card Creative X-Fi Surround 5.1 Xtreme External USB Soundcard - Ebuyer because headphone socket isn’t designed to be used with speakers and might suffer from distortion when turning the volume up.

Thank you mate really appreciate it
