How to tell chipset in-store?

I am on the hunt for a PCI SATA card with the VIA VT6421 chipset. I would like to pick it up at a store as opposed to ordering it online.

When I look at the cards in the store, they aren’t clear as to what chipset they have…is there something I am missing?

I am in the Dallas-Ft Worth area, if anyone can suggest a store in my are that would carry such a card, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Nickolas

Unfortunately, you might have to Google the name of every card you come across in a shop until you find one with that chipset… or find one with that chipset and ask the shop to order one.

why is the chipset of the SATA Controller you want so important?

You can check the specs on the box. Failing that, if it’s a white box item, you can usually open those up as they’re not always taped and check the controller chip.
