hi, hope you can help as im feeling quite desperate! i have an emachines 570 (not very good i know) so ive been upgrading, got a new graphics card 3 weeks ago and now bought a cpu
Intel P4 3.0 S478 1MB 800FSB
Intel P4 3.0 S478 1MB 800FSB OEM (SL7PM)
plus a fan, i checked the pins and thought it would work. i can get it to fit in and it goes in smoothly but when i turn the pc on it comes on as if on standby and i can hear the fan but nothing… just the orange standby light,
no emachines are pretty good (after a little tweaking)
emachines have 2 problems[ul][li]underpowered PSU’s (which explains why your having problems)[*]dodgy power switches (from front of case to mobo, but not always)[/ul][/li]
get a decent PSU like an Antec TP 2, please read B’s PSU Sticky for recomendations for a good PSU
please post your specs
BTW: i have an emachine myself, and so do others on HWF, the reason emachines are good is because the’re cheap and easy to make them v good
Most eMachines are either a 478 socket or a socket A- 462 …
I must agree that they are pretty good after some fixing. There power supply
Sucks along with there front push button switch. My main computer was a emachine until the power supply caught fire and blew up my mother board.
Anyway in oder to change your processor,YOU better know your specks of your
mother board. Was your old processor a Intel or AMD ? What was the speed?
get back to us, and let us know..
