Intel DP45SG Extreme Install Issues

Wednesday I purchased everything I need for a new computer build (chassis, memory, hard drive, Intel Duo Core E8500, Intel DP45SG Extreme, and power supply). After the installation I powerered up the computer and the motherboard began to smoke. I then unplugged the motherboard and left it alone for an hour. I then tried to restart the computer and noticed the computer would not start because the rear fan was not fuctioning. I realized the real fan power on the motherboard was not powering the fan. I switched the plug to the front fan power and it worked perfectly. Unsure about the motherboard I returned it to the electronics store for the same motherboard. I build the computer back up and now the second motherboard smokes in the same spot. I also notice the computer will not actually start up and acting as if the fans were not connected. Both fans will spin for just a second and shut back down and then the red illuminates on the power supply. I am completely confused and do not know what the issue happens to be. The new power supply does not have a 115/230 switch…I have checked that.

Any ideas? I am not sure what to do at this point.

Your PSU is either 115V only or will automatically detect the voltage (although you shouldn’t be switching it unless you move between different areas of the world).

Are you sure it’s the motherboard that’s smoking and not the power supply?
Have you tried to power on the motherboard on a flat, non-conductive surface outside the case? (the motherboard box works great for this)

this is good advice. make sure that the motherboard raisers are only under the screwholes in the motherboard. Sorry if this seems obvious, but i recently built a new pc into a previously used case, and one of the raisers needed to be in a different place even though they are both ATX motherboards.
