I got my Kubuntu disks today and when I installed it I got this error,
/etc/resolv.conf is missing or can’t be read. Ask your system administrator to create this file. ( the file can be empty) with apporpriate read and write permissions.. Also I can’t seem to get my external modem to work..
This is a first for the modem,It almost aways find my external.. Well it does with
other versions of linux. This version seems to be not so kind when finding
hardware and setting them up. any help would be so cool.
Thanks..
sudo touch /etc/resolv.conf …although it’s pretty weird that you don’t already have one.
can this be the cause of my modem problem as well?
Yes. resolv.conf is critical for internet and networking to function.
Is your modem recognized or does it just not function?
Its not being recognized .. It is a Actiontec external modem..
USB or ethernet?
Can you post your dmesg? That might help.
dmesg
Thanks for your help, but I decided to remove kubuntu and go with Mandriva or Mandrake 10 since I have it already.. It went in Like a snap and this is the first time it has ever found my internal modem and setup to work… In fact I am writing this Using
Mandrake… It might be an older version, but who cares,Just as long as it works right..
Thanks again for your help.
