Litte Project - Wireless PC Startup

I’m going to start a project soon a wireless switch system for my PC. I won’t be making the system myself as I don’t have time, I just want to make sure I get the right things pre-made to set up the system for my own use.

Right so here’s what I’ll be doing:

I’ll be setting up a wireless switch kit for my PC, that means I’ll be able to turn it on/off by remote (a keyfob, kind of like the ones cars have). I’ll be using a 2 / 3 channel remote kit - I’ll have 1 channel for the PC power (momentary connection - on then off when the button is released) and then the other channel(s) I’ll have for cathodes/fans (latched connection, once pressed it remains on until pressed again)

I’ll be using something like that. If I decide to go ahead with it (after I know I can get the right parts) I’ll keep you all updated with pictures and notes.

Oh and why? Because I want to, plus I sometimes get annoyed with my cathodes and I can’t be bothered with drilling holes for their switches, so I thought I’d be a little more adventurous (sp?) and do it by remote, plus it’ll be quite cool to be able to press a remote and have my PC spring into life :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, reminds me of the time in year 9/10 when we made an infrared circuit that plays tunes/lights up with a small PICAXE 08M PIC chip and a small stereo download socket. Fire up PICAXE, type away some code, download onto EEPROM and use the small fob to send an infrared signal to make it play a tune.

You could do something like that, find some small cheap components, 2 08Ms what we used, one for main circuit, other for the fob.

Yeah I’ve used PIC’s before. They were fun, we coded them to do traffic light stuff, had like 2 sets of lights, when one was on the others were off, then there was a pause in the system when the ‘pedestrian crossing button’ was pressed. That was fun.

I’d need 2 channels though as I really want a control for the cathodes as well. I’ll just buy a set, they’re not expensive.
