Hi all,
I have a macbook pro with the DVI adapter plug, however it doesn’t seem to be working for my monitor at home which seems to be a single-link DVI-D (according to the image here: Digital Visual Interface - Wikipedia )
This is my monitor: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/monitor/0000/acer/al2216w/al2216wsp2.shtml
Do I need to get some sort of an adapter to make it compatible? It seems like the mini-DVI adapter for my macbook is dual-link but my monitor cable is single link DVI-D… or maybe I have misunderstood =(
Thanks,
Jay
The adapter you have is the correct one. Check if it works with a lower screen resolution and the adapter is connected properly. If that fails, it might indicate that the adapter is faulty.
Thank you so much for the reply =)
Just to verify - the adapter I have works with both DVI-D and DVI-I? I’m a little new to this. Also, and I hope that this isn’t the case, but I actually bought my macbook and adapter in 2009; is it possible that the one I have is not the one that is shown on the Apple link provided above?
Thanks
DVI-D is backward compatiblemwith DVI-D. That is the only DVI adapter that Apple sells.
Did you mean DVI-I is backwards compatible?
They both are, I’m sorry
DVI-I has the ability to also send an analog signal, but that is only used if the other end supports it. The only type that is not compatible is DVI-A.
