Microsoft Strategic Commander

Hi,
Not sure if i am in the correct forum, apologies if i am. :open_mouth:

OK, my problem basically is that i own and use the “Microsoft Strategic Commander” for playing FPS games.
I usually play Valve’s Day of Defeat Source, for hours on end with no problems.
But i have just bought Call of Duty 4 and during play, for no reason at all after a random period of play, i lose all functionality of my bound keys on my game controller, i can still move (as the controller has a movable top piece aligned to cursor keys), but that’s it. If i press the bound keys on my actual keyboard, they still work in game.
My only way to get the controller working again is to exit the game and remove the controllers USB connection and plug it back in. This works sometimes, but more times it will bring up the blue screen of death and i have to reboot.
When i restart my PC send an error message to Microsoft and that in turn brings up a web page telling me i have a driver problem.

there are no up to date drivers for my Strategic Commander as Microsoft have stopped supporting and making this fantastic piece of kit.
A friend pointed me here and said that one of you chaps might have an idea about what i can do to perhaps solve this problem.

Your help is appreciated and i thank you in advance

Well, there is a rumour that Cod4 isn’t compatible with game controllers, so this, if true, may be the reason for my problem
