I don’t have much time here as i’m in the library.
I have a new hard drive installed in my Windows XP Proffesional..but i can’t install my broadband because i have a message come up saying that my display isn’t configured properly..I have tried to install my monitor Hansol LCD H550 driver disk, but it says it is out of date..
Can anyone tell me how i can get my monitor display to work properly please?
I’ll come and check for replys tomorrow..

This post doesn’t make a lot of sense, but I’ll give it a shot.
Installing programs should not be affected by your display not being configured.
I suggest you try and update your video card drivers, and then look for an update for the monitor. Although the monitor should not need a driver due to Plun And Play.

How do i update my graphic drivers? I’m not very computer wise i’m afraid…but when i do get through and install my broadband, i keep getting a box saying..“Display” not configured and there was a problem with your hardware installation and your new hardware may not work properly"
Also with my broadband finally installed all i get is white pages saying “page cannot be found” so i can’t get into the net…
I don’t know what to do…i’m having to come in the library everyday to check my e mails and so on and it’s a real pain..

I’ve been told by BT that i may have a Winsoc error and need to phone Microsoft for help, can anyone tell me what Winsoc is please?

In windows XP, goto My Computer, on the left hand side of the My Computer box, there is a blue shaded menu, click “View Network Connections”, In here should be your BT Broadband connection..
Right Click it, and make sure that the Windows Firewall is turned OFF.
If that does not work, download this from another internet connection, and put it onto a floppy disc:

I downloaded it myself, compressed in a zip file and put it on my web space, as it will now fit on a floppy disc for you :good:
download it, put a blank floppy in your floppy drive & copy it to your "A:", take the floppy, put it in your PC with the winsock problem, goto My Computer, double click on "A:" drive, there will be your file, copy it to a folder anywhere on your hard drive (for example: the “My Documents” folder)
double click the file “WinsockxpFix.zip” (which you downloaded and extract the file that is inside, or just double click on the file to run it.
when you run it you will be presented with the options:
“Fix”, “ReG-Backup” and “About”
first of all, click “ReG-Backup”, on the next box you are presented with, click “OK”, now on the next box you will see that there are tick boxes, make sure all available tick boxes are ticked (checked).
Now Click “OK”
You will be given comfirmation that the backup is complete, and was succesful, click “OK”. Now click “Fix”, on the next box click “Yes”
Wait till it finishes, then when asked to reboot, click “Yes”
then you should be done

Thank you very much, i have downloaded it onto a floppy in the library and printed this page, hopefully it will do the trick…

Not a problem, I’m not 100% sure that its a solid solution, i just did a quick search to rekindle the winsock memories.
As i said, if it works great, if it doesn’t then we’ll work around the problem.

I want to say i’m writing this post on my computer, your information worked a treat, i can’t thank you enough, i just want to kiss you The only thing for me to work out now is to shrink my pages again as they are quite big like looking through a magnifying glass..the main thing is that i have my internet back, so thanks again..

Also onto your problem with your Internet pages being to big as if they are being magnified, try this:
goto any website in your browser (either Internet Explorer or FireFox most likely)
now.. hold the CTRL (control) buttron down (in the bottom left hand corner of your keyboard) at the same time as holding this button down, use your SCROLL button on your mouse and use it as if you are scrolling down a webpage (ie pulling the scroll wheel on your mouse towards you).
Basically if you hold CTRL (control) down and push forward your mouse wheel it will zoom in, if you hold CTRL (control) down and pull towards you, you will zoom out.
(All the above will work in FireFox as for Internet Explorer follow this:)
If you Do Not have a mouse wheel, follow these instructions:
Open Internet Explorer - go to “VIEW” then look down the menu till you see “Text Size >” now select “Medium” or “Small” or “Smaller” or the “Larger” options, choose which ever suites you.
