I recently bought an Intel D510MO and 2GB RAM for a server that I’m building to run Windows Server 2008 R2.
I’ve gotten the above components installed in a case with a 2TB HDD. The issue that I’m experiencing is that nothing works, or for very long at least. When I try to install Server 2008 from a bootable USB, it finishes loading files and begins to show the “Starting Windows” animation before it spontaneously resets. If I try to install Windows 7 (x86), it gets to about the same point and BSODs instead (http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/4589/20100702234103.jpg).
I’ve tried formatting the HDD with Active KillDisk; it gets to either 3% or 4%, and then it freezes (makes no further progress and ignores all input). I thought the memory might be defective, so I tried running MemTest86+; it gets to either 36% or 38% on the first pass of the first test and then freezes.
I’ve already updated the BIOS to the latest revision and outside of a physical hardware defect, I can’t determine what the problem is. Based on what I’ve gathered thus far, what’s the likely cause of the problem and, if hardware, which parts would need to be replaced (I can still RMA at this point)?
Thanks in advance!
