New Desktop

I want to get a New PC to replace my growingly outdated Sony Vaio notebook (Pentium 4 and integrated graphics). I initially wanted to replace it with another, new laptop from HP. After thinking about how much I actually need the mobility aspect of a laptop, a desktop proved to provide more features at the same price. So I looked at a desktop from HP, and then came to the realization that I could get something better for the same price if I built one myself.

I’ve made a list of things I want to buy. However, I’ve never actually built a PC before, I’ve only disassembled them. Hence, I’m not sure if all of this stuff will work even if I assemble it correctly, much less if I’ve carelessly forgotten something.

I also want to get a round IDE cable to use as opposed to a ribbon for the DVD drive. However, I’m not sure what length I should go about ordering.

I’ve already asked a few friends who say that “it should work,” however, I’d rather not just order it and find out without a few more opinions because of Newegg’s wonderful 15% Restocking Fee.

Additionally, I’d like to order by the 25th, as rebates on a few products require it to be purchased on that day or before.

The Gfx card may be a bit under par comparing to the rest of your system but if you dont game seriously then it will be more than fine.

I know it sounds rediculous but if you have forgotten… mouse and keyboard?

Also if you want the best from your cooler then get a tube of arctic silver 5

also if you are buying a new cooler it may suggest you are looking to quieten down your PC. If so you should also upgrade th vga cooler because it will also be quite loud

I think that I actually went a bit overkill with the GPU actually. I want Aero in Vista (which I don’t have now because of this integrated crap). I don’t play that many games, just Age of Empires III on occasion. I play GTA: San Andreas too, but it’s not Vista-compatible right now. When the DX10 cards are a bit less pricey, I’ll probably buy one of them.

I hadn’t thought about a mouse or keyboard yet, as that’s something that I actually know how to pick and plug in. However, I was thinking about getting this – it’s even got a button for Flip 3D.
