Hey everyone, well I just went out and bought a 9600XT, just to get home and realize that the Dell I bought about 8 months ago… dont ask me why i bought a Dell, I just did, does not have an AGP slot. WTF is up with that? The Compaq that my dad bought two and a half years ago had an AGP slot… and this comp doesnt? Wow, Im really pissed off. I would have to buy an entirely new mb to be able to install this card wouldnt I?
well if it doesn’t have an AGP slot, yeah I guess you would but I think that the power supply needs a special connector that you can only find on the motherboards like the one you have.
what’s the model of your system ?
Do they make PCI versions of the 9600XT?
One more question. The card says that it it will only run on 4x/8x on the box, so if you tried to place it in something below that, it wouldnt work at all?

That’s right, it wouldn’t work.
Only the 9200 series is made both in agp and pci versions.
If I were you, I’d get another motherboard because no pci card come close to an agp card in terms of performance. And I think performance is important to you, or else you wouldn’t have bought a 9600XT.
hey, you are out of luck really. if you can, try to pick up a used MB from your local store!
The 2x, 4x, 8x agp transfer rates also correspond with a voltage. Older AGP cards run at 3.3V. 4x runs 1.5V and 8x has like 0.8V (if I recall correctly).
Like I said in the other thread, since Dell uses a proprietary PSU, buy a new one of those as well. And a new case since a standard ATX PSU might not work in an mATX system as far as size goes.

Open it up and look for a long brown slot around the middle of the motherboard.
AGP should be directly above the PCI slots, and set about an inch to the right
You will have a new one 4600 and it has a slot on it for my video card. I have a 9800 Pro 128mb in mine.
