the size is 2.5 inch. interface is Ultra ATA/100 IDE/EIDE. and yeah, thats basically all u need to know to replace you hd.

Little Background:
I recently was experienceing extreme slowdown problems and over all unsatisfactory performance. I wen ahead and try to reformat and reinstall windows…
Upon deleting all of my partition and creating a new one… I end up with this screen countless times.
-Steup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged.
Make ure the drivce is switched on and properly connected to your computer. If The Disl is a SCSI disk, make sure your SCSI devices are properly terminated. Consult your computer manual or SCSI adapter documentation for more imformation.
You must select a different partition for Windows XP.

If you have a USB 2.5 HDD case then you can check with it. Thats how I do it… Also, if you have another laptop then you can check with that as well
OK small update, I’ve tried deleting the partition and create a new one… still no luck same eroor mesage comes up…
I was wondering if it is indeed only my HDD that is causing the problems or is it something else that i need to look at?

What state is your hard drive in now?
What I suggest you do is visit bootdisk and download the Windows XP boot disk.
Boot your computer from the disk, then once you are at the DOS prompt type:
chkdsk /f
