I plan on buying my parts really soon and I was wondering if it is safe to buy parts online or should I buy them in store even though they will all be anywhere from $30 to $100 dollars more per part. The websites that i plan to use are newegg, zipzoomfly, and tigerdirect.
Newegg is the ultimate choice for price/selection, Tiger Direct is nice for they’re frequent major price cuts but I don’t really have any experience with them. Zipzoomfly has very poor selection for the most part but free second day shipping is a major plus, buy from them if they have a product you like cheaper than on Newegg or whatever. mWave is pretty good as well:good:
I wouldn’t bother with stores unless you’re trying something out like a weird keyboard or uncertain monitors maybe. Otherwise don’t waster your money. The weasle way would be to buy something from a store, try it out, return it for a refund and buy the same thing online:)
I’ve bought from both Newegg and ZipZoomFly, and have probably spent at least $1k at both stores. I’ve seen some bad blood with TigerDirect, but this has been years ago, and they seem like they may have changed since I last dealt with them.
The nice thing about stores in town is that if something is defective, you don’t have to wait as long to replace the part. While Newegg and ZipZoomFly are good at returns and replacements, the fact is, you’re probably looking at 1-2 weeks to get it there and get the replacement back.
id recommend you use pricegrabber to find any parts you want from those stores, if you like something just click on it, then the extension on the store price to get on the store page, zipzoom has good selection too and great prices only their engine is poorly made, so use pricegrabber.
now i think of it, i rekon if they did expand to the uk, obviously there would be a special section that is in pounds but i rekon they will bump up prices for the uk, to match other stores.
