I’ve decided it’s time for a bit of an upgrade. I am a complete dumbass so I need help
Current Specs : (I don’t know what is relevant so just copied and pasted important looking things haha)
Processor: x86 Family 6 Model 6 Stepping 2 AuthenticAMD ~1600 Mhz
Total Physical Memory: 256.00 MB
Total Virtual Memory: 2.00 GB
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 with AGP8X
CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device
80GB Hard drive
Well I hope that helps. I am on a tight budget of around £100 so any ideas would be great. You’re going to have to hold my hand through this because I am a noob
Here are 3 ideas: 512MB mem, 6200 w/ 256MB vram, or 6600 w/ 128MB DDR3 vram. I’d personally go with the 6600 myself, a very nice value, and the addition of DDR3 compaired to DDR is an extra perk. Hope this help.
Cheers Matt
Thankyou so much That really helps because I am useless at finding things to get. I will order them soon I am supposed to spend my allowance on clothes but ah, what can ya do!
Do you have any other suggestions for a graphics card at around the £75 mark? I am ordering the memory as soon as I get money though but I’m still undecided about which card to get.
Ture, the 9800Pro will be nice for ya, about the same performance as the 6600, though no shader model 3 (not useful yet anyway). The 6200 will have a little problem with Doom3 on the higher settings though HL2 will be just fine. The 9800 Pro is obviously going to do great. I wouldn’t worry about the brand so much, I only condider what games come with the card, if any.
DON’T GO WITH THE 6200! it only churned out like 14fps in farcry on 1024/1280 with no
AA or AF, its not worth it, budget chips perform better (aka ones that cost less considering the chip itself is “budget”)
True, it is a real budget card so I guess your right. But then again even dual ultras get low fps with things cranked up on FarCry, that is a very demanding game.
Ah, here’s where I found the results, the FarCry hangglider demo @ 1600x1200 with stuff maxed yeilds about 25fps on the best systems imaginable! Take a look, it’s near the bottom of this page. Congrats on the Doom3 frame count though. :good:
