I have a 120gb drive.
partitioned so have drive (C:) and Local drive (D:)
both NTFS.
Windows became totally corrupt so i formatted Local and rightly or wrongly i installed xp on local.
I then tried to format (C:) and at the end of formatting Windows told me it couldn’t not complete action.
My AIM is to format (C:) and reinstall windows on the drive and then reformat the local.
BTW: if you have partition magic greater than about version 4 do NOT use it, because Symantec have ruined it by rewriting it when they bought powerquest, as Symantec always do, take NIS, please take it far away from every computer because it’s crap and almost impossible to get rid of without formatting
the only partition software i can recommend is Acronis Disk Director
if you have partitioning software personally i would boot from the partitioning softwares CD[ot]you may have to install the partitioning software before you can create a bootable CD[/ot]& i would probably create & format the 2 NTFS before i installed the OS, and install the OS to the first partition
BTW: i highly recommend Acronis products becouse they have saved my ass a few times when i used XP
if you need anything explaining, just ask, because you learn by asking questions
well you could go through this from MS & obviously set the partition size to 50% of the free / unpartitioned space & create a second partition later
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THAT MS HOWTO, LOL
BTW: i don’t like or trust MS in anyway, but, assuming MS OSs were good, you’ll be fine using that how to[ot]personally i hate MS with a passion, period[/ot]
BTW: you will be fine using that how to
you need at least 1 formatted partition to install Windows
don’t worry, everyone has to learn, we weren’t all born knowing crap, personally, i only have 1 system & i’m typing this from home, you just pick things up as your browsing
