Should I play video directly off of my external HDD?

I just put a spare 200 GB HDD into an external enclosure, and am currently using it to move over lots of audio/video media that I had taking up space on my laptop. My question, though, is this:

Is it recommended to play video directly off the external drive, or should I copy the files to my local HDD to play them? I’m assuming that it should be OK to play files directly off the external drive, but I was just wondering if the bandwidth of a FireWire/USB 2.0 connection (I have both) is reliable enough to play video directly.

Thanks!

yeah you shouldn’t have any problem playing off an external hdd

Thanks, thought so.

It’s the same as an internal HDD, just with a casing and connected via usb, so you shouldn’t have any issues.

i m usin a USB HDD 4m 2yrs nd i ve done nearly everything on it like playing games, listening music, watchin videos…nd i m still doingt it. I like this shit coz i can use it on any comp.
