I recently got a Alienware computer from a friend, and I was just wondering what socket 775 processors would work best with my setup.
Heres what the Alienware specs tell me:
Processor 1
Name: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.60GHz
Caption: x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4
Current Clock Speed: 3600MHz
Address Width: 32Bits
Data Width: 32Bits
Processor 2
Name: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.60GHz
Caption: x86 Family 15 Model 3 Stepping 4
Current Clock Speed: 3600MHz
Address Width: 32Bits
Data Width: 32Bits
Motherboard Information
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Product: D925XCV
So, I understand that it’s a P4 3.6GHz w/Hyperthreading running at 800MHz FSB. Is there a better upgrade from this processor?
If i remember correctly the latter Pent 4 775’s got to a top speed of 3.8 GHz so there should be something quicker around. Your board may be able to support the Pent 4 extreme edition which could handle mobo speeds of 266MHz (quad pumped) but in terms of clock speed these weren’t much quicker anyway although they did have a L3 cache.
Both the Pentium D and Core2 processors are 775 sockets so you may want to check if your board can support either of those but i doubt it will.
Ya, unfortunately that board will only support the p4’s. Not even the P Ds. If I where you and had the money I’d go ahead and get a new mobo and proc, as that p4 is pretty nice as far as clock speed goes, but will soon be pretty obsolete. Just pick up a 680i of p35 board sometime and throw on a C2D or even a quad lol.
