I know it’s the oldest question in the book - but is symantec AV really any good from a “professional” opinion?
It has the free updates, unlike other AV’s I have tried (Like Panda) however it can be heavy on system resources… and now with the latest update this DoScan.exe is it the way for things to come?
I have read in many posts and many sites that Norton are crap, but don’t they make this (supposedly good) AV?
I’ve also heard about the high system resource usage. However, if protecting from viri is your aim, then Norton is ok I think. However, there are many other AVs that are just as good, one superior is Trend-Micro AV.
I’d recommend either Trend-Micro or Sophos. I’ve used NOD on the server end, but not the client end, so I can’t speak for that. As for NAV, I’ve used that on both client and server, and I despise it for many reasons. It is better than it was, but so are all the AVs of that time.
In the free AV arena, AVG-Free is pretty good for the casual user, as is ClamWin.
