Well, looks like it’s adios to my 2nd IBM 60GXP. Was working fine yesterday. Today, and I mean just about 1/2hr ago, it started making the clicking noises. This was after my Promise RAID controller wouldn’t acknowledge a drive…So far, IBM has had a 100% failure rate for me. Oh, and BTW, I won’t be RMAing this. This has got to be the worst hardware investment I’ve made in a long time…:(:dead:
yeh, ive got a brand new ibm desktar 60gb, and event viewer is picking up bad sectors ![]()
Doh, cant find the events in the log now, but i saw them the other night ![]()
I’d definitely be returning that and getting something else. I’ve heard that the Western Digital drives with the 8MB cache are very, very fast—supposedly near SCSI speeds in some areas. If you can afford one, that’d be very ideal.
Never bought a IBM hard drive before, never will! ![]()
Good move.
Big B good choice I had three IBM drives die on me ended up going for 2x Caviar 80GB 8MB cache drives and haven’t had a problem and they do actually perform as well as a scsi drive.
