I want to upgrade my pc. I run a lot of databases so I want more processing power and want it to run faster. I currently have the following ( I got this information from CPU-Z program):
It’s better to overclock your E6600 than get a Quad Core i honestly don’t think there will be significant advantage, the new Intel chips Nehalem aka Core i7 will be a great choice but they are pricey and you have to buy a few other stuff with it.
i7 is going to be tricky to overclock. There is no FSB for the proc and memory control is on the processor now. The i7 is also going to fry EXTREMELY easily if any additional voltage is applied to the cpu. It’s horrible, but we will have to learn how to overclock all over again.
(Multitasking runs to poker software plus an analysis database.
I’ll look into the overclocking thanks.)
I’d look more to Ram than CPU.
That CPU is more than capable of handling databases and poker software.
Overclocking is ok for a gamer, but for someone who uses his PC for databases and business, overclocking may be a bad idea since a single floating point error could cause your DB to become corrupt.
Add 2 more gig of ram while it’s still cheap to buy and I bet your problems disappear.
That is unless, you’re running Vista
