Its on the same platform as the recently released 300gb VelociRaptor, which is a 2.5 HDD in a 3.5 enclosure. Hard drive manufactures are worried about the market share that SSD’s will take away from them, as they are expected to be affordable in the next year or so.
Holy cow! 20,000 RPM is crazy. I was wondering if we’d see something past 15,000 RPM SCSI drives, but that’s been answered.
yeah, but i wonder at what cost, i have to imagine that its going to use more energy than 7,200 rpm drives, and obviously more than SSDs. Also, i know Raptors are suppose to last longer than traditional HDDs, but 20,000 rpms is really fast, so it makes me wonder. I dunno, ether way, its still really cool, and thats all just speculation.
