Windows 7 Performance!

When i installed win 7 original rtm…my pc ranned so fast(screen refresh) almost like xp..but after installing the essential apps it seems lik a month old xp(screen refresh)..my pc has
3ghz P4 HT
915GAV MB
1.5GHz DDR 1 400mhz (1x1Gb 2x256mb in 3 DIMMS..Memory mode:single channel)
ati radeon 4650 1GB

So i m thinking 2 add another 1GB to the last dimm left in my mobo so it become 2.5Gb & Mode BECOME DUAL Channel..will this improve the performance for win7???If yes then how much :q: :q: :q: Info: Almost all latest popular game tiltles runs smoothly(in XP) in my pc..So Plz dont tell to take a new pc..its not possible for me now..

I know that MS suggest a CPU of 1GHz or faster of 32bit or 64bit architecture but I would imagine that you would benefit from a dual core CPU. Unfortunately, your board does not support these… :frowning:

You can:

  • up your CPU - Pentium 4 single cores go up to 3.8 (with a 2MB L2) or over-clock your current one (be it on your head…and if you can…).
  • Dual channelling your RAM would definitely have a positive effect. Go for two 1GB matched modules or 4 512MB. Each pair has to match! Or go to the max and use 4 matched 1GB modules. However your CPU may still bottleneck your system…

may b u r right but in every system info apps..they my cpu has 2 cores with HT..& how will win7 run in 2.5gb dual channel??

Exactly the thread I’ve been looking for :smiley: ; Now, that win 7 pro is out (more or less a final release) and I can get it via my student program, I thought to give my strongest PC a treat and install the new OS (bypassing Vista - yes - I have never ever installed Vista on any PC). I have approx the same setup as the creator of the setup (see My Computer) and it looks to be strong enough. All I am looking for is to get at least the same performance as XP gives, but with the numerous additions of the new-gen. MS OS. So far, it seems like a good path to go.
