I plan on upgradding to 512MB, brand new nice video card a (Radeon 9500 Pro)..and a new processor…BTW For under 175 dollers can someone tell me a good processor for gaming?..Also if my computer is frezzing will getting a new processor help?

We will need to know the model of your computer in order to determine what processor you can use in it.

$175 is plenty enough for a processor but it has to fit on your motherboard, so that’s why I can’t suggest anything at the moment. You could actually get a motherboard and cpu for that price, that is, if you have DDR memory, if it fits in your compaq case and if it is compatible with your compaq psu, which I doubt.

I don’t believe a processor will stop your computer from freezing. This can be caused by a lot of things. When does it freeze exactly ?

randomly…just out of the blue it freezes..

Try and get the exact same model of RAM if you can. then you can dual channel it for about 10% performance increase.

your mobo will take all Durons (up to 1.8Ghz) or some on the AthlonXPs. But without your motherboard model i can’t be sure.

Hard to say, but it should do a Duron 900 fine. After that, he’s probably gonna need a BIOS update.
