ati driver problems. video playback

I have ati aiw 7500 win XP home

ok, my problem is with ANY video driver higher than catalyst 3.2, whenever i play back any video, produced by any codec, mpeg or what have you, i get black streaks that appear at random. little black pixel strips, not too big, but the only way they go away is to minimize the video and resize again, or drag another window over it. it does it on the main display and the 2nd display. they appear at different times, never in the same place, just out of nowhere.

i have to reinstall the old 3.2 driver to get proper video playback.

I cant figure out why. ati cant help me for they dont reply and im not made of money to stay on the phone for 1.25 a min.

has anyone come across this? or is there something i can do?

So everything works perfectly with the Cat 3.2 ?

Is there a specific reason why you'd want to change drivers ?
 
Have you tried the latest drivers from omegacorner.com? Those drivers have got many of the factory ATI bugs fixed/removed, and they come with artifact testing tools so you can make sure your hardware is still tip top. Be forewarned though, Omegadrive drivers are optimized for game and movie playback, not for benchmarks.
 
i tired the omega drivers, still no luck. i have no idea. well, time for a new card then. where are you other aiw7500 users? i nee dyour opinion. wanna know if it happend to you.
 
I worked on a system the other day with a R7500, and video playback was fine. However, the SVideo output was completely dead. I’m starting to think they didn’t put enough QA time into the 7500’s. :( Regardless, what I would do first is run the artifact tester that came with the Omegadrive drivers. If the card is not overclocked and it detects artifacts, I’d definately replace that card. If you don’t have the money for a new card, why not just regress back to the Catalyst 3.2 drivers? Then again, if you think your system is worth the upgrade and you can afford $70 or so, you might consider grabbing a R9200 series card. They do pixel shading (7xxx series doesn’t), Smartshader to clean up video playback, and 4 rendering pipes (R7500 has only 1 pipe). Not bad for under $100. If you want to go a little better, I like the 9500 series for under $150, or 9800 if you’re in the dough. :)
