I have certain applications installed which require updating: Acrobat X, Music Match Jukebox X, Windows Media Player X, Anti-Virus etc.. But i've turned widows automatic update off because i don't want to download large amount of data seens almost every application needs updates, is it a good idea to turn it off? and if not how can i assign my prefered applications for updating?

Adobe should update its self when started.
Anti virus if its not windows will update itself anyway, all windows will do is tell you its out of date etc.
You can go to each individual software and update through that way but you might be missing something critical that keeps the os upto date.
Leave the updates on, you need to give Windows a fighting chance of keeping you secure.

Updating those kind of software manually, take a long time. Best thing is that turn it on the auto-update option.

Windows Updates are quite separate from the other softwares like Adobe, Firefox n so n so.... I mean even if you chose to turn off the windows update, these softwares will still look for updates. If you want to turn of updates for these programs then you have to do it manually by going in their options or preferecnces or so.
About Windows Updates, its always good to have them on. But remember one thing, it will only update OS not the drivers or nething else. If you go to the Windows Update website (Open IE > Toos > Windows Update), select Custom and let windows to find the updates....then you might find other updates as well...like drivers n some unimportant updates.

Ya, thats true, updating only OS components. And one thing, better to use FF.
