Avast Antivirus: Best Scan Settings?

Hi, on my server, i noticed files were becoming corrupt for some unknown reason, and some just not working, so i decided to check for viruses, i found one, but the thing is, the Antivirus is still scanning, 15 hours from when i started it, i started the antivirus at 9pm yesterday, and 12noon and its still going, the hdd it is scanning is about 250gb, nearly full, but surely it should take this long?

The specs of the server are as followins:
Celeron s 1.2ghz
250GB WD HDD
384MB SD Ram

Is it because of the hardware it is taking so long? i did set it to thorough scan, maybe thats why? so whats the best settings so that i can find all viruses and also get the scan finished alot quicker?
 
It's taken the best part of 7 hours to scan 80GB on my machine, I wouldn't worry about it. I have known the Avast! thorough scan to take much longer than what you're experiancing now. Just leave it, and chill. :D

As for the best setting, I've always found it good practise to run a quick scan everyday, and then the thorough scan each week. Unfortunatly you can't have the best of both worlds, i.e fast and thorough.
 
Server? Windows! :O

Problem number one my friend! LAMP would be a much better choice, and you can have web interfaces for everything if you need them! So once its set up it wont need a keyboard/mouse/screen/Virus Scan ever again... and you'll also claim back the CPU time the Graphics are currently wasting!

Its a fair size of hard drive (ATA i guess?) so it will take a LONG time to scan everything properly, as you need to do.

PS if you want to scan for windows viruses under linux (such as files users can download from your server) there's Clam AV amoungst others.
 
My server Runs Windows Server 2003, i dont use a keyboard, mouse or monitor, i go through remote desktop. I dont have enough desk space for an extra keyboard, mouse and monitor :p

I will not be using Windows Server 2003 forever, i am using it because my hdd with the 230gb + stuff on is NTFS, and i do not have enough space to back it all up and format to a Linux partition, but as soon as i get more hdd, i probs will move to SME Server.

But maybe Kubuntu because i want to use the server for torrents.

LAMP? :s what is that?

Also, i rekon this scan is going to take about 40 hours, it hasent even scanned 50% of the drive yet!
 
Wow, thats awsome, i am going to use that on windows server lol.

OMg, its very complicated, i follow the isntructions, go into command promt, type what it says to type, "mysqladmin create torrentflux" and it says its not a valid file :s
