Hello all sorry i haven't been around for a while but i need some help (again)
I have just " inherited "another tower which has gone tits up so i thought have a look see if i (or we ) can sort it out cause it's faster than mine
Hooks the new beasty up switches on and ............my monitor won't come off standby ! Right , try graphics card in my tower ! woo hoo it works ,so ,trys my graphic card in "donor " tower ....doesn't work ! refits my graphic card into my tower everything s ok so the question is what's the reason the newly aquired tower won't work with my monitor
your help would be gratefully appreciated ! ta much !

I would consider the motherboard... And though i may be wrong about this one (heheh - or both), I'd try the your main PC's RAM in your new compy just for the heck of it. Hope this helps :good:

What im suggesting is that, yes, the motherboard may be broken. And what im suggesting about the RAM is that you take the ram out of your new compy and put the stuff from your main compy in it and see if it boots. This is a pain, but you may want to (if it's compatible)- one by one - take all the stuff from this new compy and replace the parts on your main compy. For example - take the ram from the new compy and put it in the main compy in place of the current ram then see if it'll boot. Also, i forgot to ask - does the computer turn on at all (like- do the fans turn on and all)? I hope i didn't word all that too complicated. Let us know if it works out.

woo hoo have been on hols for a week and on my return have managed to fix new donor tower by eventually managing to formatt hard drive ( yes i know desperate measures and all that ) and install windows
just have now to find all downloads and re-install software
look out for my slightly less outdated pc listing but i tell ya this thing is faster than my old piece of crap !
& no i have no idea why it wouldn't work before i just know the previous user could have only cocked up on the software side
Big bonus my memory sticks are now at last working at the speed they are supposed to (any queries see previous cries for help )

I would say that the drivers on the donor had the refresh rate too high for your monitor. How old is your monitor? Is your graphics card the same brand as the donor? Sounds like something with refresh rates.
Or I could be completly wrong, could have been the mobo too. :P
