best mem speeds with best stability

hello i have an asus p4nd2-d motherboard with p4 650 i can get 667 memory speed (ddr2) 5-4-4-12, this setting is normal but i want to try get more memory speed :devilsdsd

i need to know which mem clock speed are less important to have but make a big difference in stabilty i.e. which should be higher than the other to get max performance with good stability, i was thinking more like 2-2-2-12 but it wont let me have that :mad:

DDR2 has higher latency, which is why you'll see 4-4-4 to 5-5-5 timings usually.

I'm not quite as well versed on the current Pentiums and DDR2, but what I do know is that lower timings like 2 or 3 aren't available. If lower timings are all you're after, then DDR2-800 or 1066 might allow you to drop that low. DDR2-800 prices are pretty reasonable these days.

If you're intending to overclock, then you'll have to give up the lower timings. You're more likely to get better tweaks with stuff like Corsair's XMS, OCZ's XTC Gold, or Patriot's +XBL lines. I'm not quite sure what's the best rated stuff in DDR2, but I'm sure some googling around can bring up some good info.

Ive never played with any of this new stuff but what I do remember from when I used to overclock stuff is that I often got better ram performance with lower latency settings than an overclock.

ie my cpu can handle 2.6ghz but the system runs better when its at 2.5ghz and the ram has a slightly lower latency than it can handle when cpu is at 2.6ghz. I think the cpu even did better when at the slightly lower fsb setting.

It took me a good 6monhts to go through all the settings, you just have to play with it over and over.
