I'm in here and there, but my life at this stage doesn't leave a whole lot of time to spare. I'm not dead, but my online activity suggests I'm comatose. I'm going to upgrade my main rig (wife: we need to keep at least one computer fairly current), and I had to do a lot of research to catch up.
I could only do what I did at HWF because I was single. I'd be surprised if I could crank out a motherboard review with a full month lead time. Popping one off in a week wasn't a problem, but with my kids trying to climb my lap when I sit down at the computer, you might see that same review in about six months. Consequently, much of my gaming these days is console-based.
My wife and I sorta discussed me owning my own website. If it was a paid gig as a tech journalist, possibly, but what I know about running your own site, that's not for me. That stuff takes a lot of energy to get going, and that and time are in short supply.
Someday, I may once again take up the mighty ban-hammer, but this won't happen anytime soon.

Haha nice. I also got married, hence my absence for all these years. No kids yet although my wife likes to remind me they are on the horizon! My home PC set-up is ageing, with just a basic Core 2 Duo with a Quadro for dual screen PC that I took from work, and an Sandy Bridge i3 laptop shared with the wife. I hadn't built a PC in awhile until a few weeks ago when I did what all proper geeks do and that is build a HTPC! Went with an ITX, onboard low-power Celeron 847, Dual DVB Tuner card and XBMC to run the show. The wife doesn't know how to use it but I'll worry about that another time!

I'd like to upgrade to Haswell, but depending on what funds are left after addressing other things (bills, fencing in the yard) that may not happen, and I've priced an FX 6300 upgrade that will still be good enough for my needs. My monitor's max resolution is 1600 x 900, so it's not like I need a top of the line to get a noticeable bump from my Pentium E2160. I did swap motherboards with my wife, but outside of that, I haven't truly upgraded my rig since before we were married.
I have a lot of geek fantasies, but usually, the dealings with life don't make it easier to accomplish. I've thought about trying to play around with Gentoo on my old laptop, but that's conditional to it still powering up for starters.
Outside of transitioning to a family life instead of geek bachelor, the biggest jolt was a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and the subsequent journey through medication land. I really felt the life sucked out of me for a long time until med-roulette stopped. I would not wish this condition on my enemy. There's been a few times I'm pretty sure my wife was going have the police come down and get me---I've been very psychotic, and past the point of a cut and dry anger management problem. I was probably dealing with it for years, but some extremely stressful situations helped bring what we assumed to be depression at the time. The depression meds didn't seem to cut it and I still had behavior that didn't fit the bill for that diagnosis.
Still, it seems as though there are more extreme cases of the disorder, and I want to take my meds--something that bipolar people don't always like to do.

As long as I stay on my meds, I definitely stay in control, whereas without them or on a low dose, I may or may not spend expressively and be generally revved up usually followed by a depressive episode of sorts--usually out of energy and sleeping. One manic episode left me purchasing the car I currently drive. Subsequently, any large purchases must have my wife's approval.
I definitely see gaming days ahead with my 2-year old. I have an old controller that I used on the PC in the past, but now it's in the toy bin. He's tried to figure out how to move the character with it only to give up. We think we'll pick up one of the Kids Dance Party games for the Wii since they just have to shake the Wiimote. My 4-year old likes to play with the tablets in stores and we have a cheap one we picked up for her. Hopefully, we can show her how to play with it and keep her attention. She runs off when you try to show her something these days.

well, thats probably a good thing, although you can't be impulsive or surprise your wife with something
typical kids generally hate having to learn, they just expect that they should know stuff, similar to me in early days with *nix, recently started cross compiling Gargoyle for RT305x (DIR 615 D) but without instructions, just figured "how would i have done it" just waiting for it to finish.
