can i instal word 97 on XP home

As long as you dont have any other version of office installed it should work fine!
If you do have another version installed make sure you un-install it first!

Ok, wel basically- I have got Word XP and it has Works 10.0 installed on it- would it be alrite to install Word, excel and powerpoint 97 on there without it mucking up?

What would happen if i had 2 differnet versions of office on there?

Cheers

ummmm, you shouldnt have any problems if you just install every feature of office 97 except word, they shouldnt conflict! (the 97 setup should automatically untick word).
I'm guessing by ur Office WordXP and Works combo that ur PC is OEM?

whats OEM?

Sorry- Original Equipment Manufacturer!
Basically it means buying a brand name computer like HP, Compaq or Dell, as most of them come with Word and Works!

I don't think that different versions of office will conflict. File associations would change to the last one to be installed but it should be ok.

My question is this: why would you want to install Word '97 when you already have Word 2002? Microsoft Office always breaks forwards compatibility, but not backwards compatibility. In other words, you will be able to save documents in Word '97 format with Word 2002, but not vise-versa. It'll just clutter your registry and your HDD to have both installed. If you want an alternative word processor, I'd recommend OpenOffice.org. It's free, open-source, runs on any platform, way smaller than MS Office, and is compatible with MS Office documents.

hi, i dont have word 2002. I have just purchsed a dell computer and it is coming with XP home. It doesnt have word or anything on it because I didnt want to pay for this- I already have word, excel, powerpoint 97 from my old computer but wanted to know if it would be ok to install this on an XP OS?

I think that would be a breach of the EULA so yyou can't legally install it on another computer. It is possible, so read the agreement to see if they allow you to install it on another computer.

it wouldnt be a breach because it is uninstalled from my current comp- and wil be installed on my new one when it comes. do you know if it will work though?
