Can't Extend My Desktop

Hi,

I have an IBM T30 laptop and am trying to use a spare
monitor that I have as an extension of the laptop screen when I am home.

The laptop has an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, and I can get the monitor to start as a clone, but for some reason I cannot get it as an extension. If I go into the help option under Display > Settings > Advanced > Displays then it tells me how to under the Help section. But the buttons which it says to press if I want to
extend the monitor to the right or down are missing.

I have tried searching Google but can't find anything all that useful. Any ideas on what I need to do to get my desktop extended? Not sure if anyone needs some more information, any help appreciated. Thanks.
 
Well I did that not too long ago with a TV. It should be the same thing with a monitor.

I'll tell you what I did and if you find something different, you may wanna' try it like that.

I plugged my s-video cable from the VO of the card to the input of my receiver.
When I turned on the computer, I saw the POST screen but it went blank when Windows booted (which is normal).
Then I went in the "settings" tab of the Display properties and selected the second monitor (there's an image with two monitor, there's a 1 and a 2 on one and the other).
I selected the second monitor and checked the "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor"
Now, the way you gotta move the mouse for it to go on the second monitor depends on the way it'S configured in the image.
If the second one is on the right and the other on the left. You gotta move the mouse on the right and it will appear on the second monitor, etc.

If you wanna' use the second monitor as the primary one, you have to check the "use this device as the primary monitor" box.

If you do not see the POST screen on your second monitor when you turn it on, I'd say the problem is hardware related and not software related. In that case, maybe your cable is faulty.
You can try it on a tv if you have the necessary cable also.

If this doesn'T work, we'll try and find another solution.
