Can't setup dialup

I bought my son a computer and all he can afford right now is dialup. At my house I hooked it up to my DSL line and downloaded various applications. When we go thru the Connection Wizard at his house for him to set up on dialup. we can't get past the stage where it says "How do you connect to the internet?" The correct choice is the first one "Connect using a dialup modem" But that choice is grayed out. The only one not, is the last one "Connect Using a broadband connection" My ISP tech support had no idea and sent me to Microsoft Support and I wound up talking to someone from India for 2 hours. No help. Its Windows XP SP 2. All updates are installed, including IE7. The connection on Start/Connect to is 3com etherlink XL 10/100 PCI TX N Is that the modem? I've gone to Device manager and uninstalled and reinstalled the modem. What else?

It seems theres a device problem with the modem. If you're using drivers on a CD, try going to the manufacturers website and downloading the correct, latest drivers for your modem.

right the system is looking for the broadband connection but obviously it can't find it cos the system was on broadband at your home, there are 2 ways to fix it

• add an additional network connection & the dialup adapter
• totally remove everything to do with networking, including all network connections then run the install CD that is with your modem

the second option is easier to do[ot]although i don't remember how to do it on XP, cos i'm now a linux user[/ot]i'll PM Karanislove cos he'll know.

no, thats a network / Ethernet card, your probably best removing that to avoid confusion (both physically remove the card & the drivers)

First of all check and see if the wire is connected with the Modem and not with the Network Card:ohah: coz you can only see network card connected when you really connect it with something otherwise a red cross on the LAN connection will always b there...
If you also want to remove that Broadband Icon then right click on it and select disable...it will go from the taskbar and will not come back untill u enable it again from Network connections....
Now open Internet Explorer, go to tools > Internet Options > Unnder Connection Tab, if there is any connection stated there then remove it and setup new connection...Let us know how it goes :)

[ot]Make sure that Modem and modem drivers are installed in your computer... also to check modem drivers go to device manager(RightClick MyComptuer > Manage > Device Manager) and see if there is anything in yellow exclamatery sighn[/ot]

presumably he wants to use a 56k dialup modem

First of all check and see if the wire is connected with the Modem and not with the Network Card

wait till he replies, cos i think he's trying to use a 56k modem on a system setup for broadband
