computer running really slow

hi there, i got a virus on my computer which took it over completely. i was told that if i formatted my hard-drive it would run as it used to.
well i formatted it and now it runs really slow, not at a snails pace but compared to what it used to be like its really annoying. i don't think its the hard-drive because i've tried another one instead of this one and the computer was still slow, does anybody have any idea what it could be? (my computer is a Pentium 4 by the way)

if ur pc is running slow u might have alot of clutter with regards to your registry. i suggest you try a registry cleaner and see if that sorts problem out. i would not suggest using regedit to sort the problem out yourself as i have done that before and ended losing half of my desktop through deleting entries lol

download the following program http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en it will tell you quite a bit about your computer, then post the results here from the summary section of the program.

When you say the computer is slow, do you refer to opening windows, programs etc or only certain applications?

I think the most likely thing could be that you haven't got all the required drivers installed.

and it is everything that is slow

copy and paste the results from the summary, dont save it as html or anything, select it, copy it, paste it.

then we can establish what hardwar you have, and what you should reinstall.

Without drivers, Windows doesn't know how to properly handle your hardware, so it runs in a sort of compatibility mode. Running in such a state, even very fast hardware will run horribly slow. You'll need drivers for your motherboard, video card, and any additional components before you can make full use of your hardware:

1) Find out the model of your system
2) Go to the manufacturer's website
3) Download all applicable drivers
4) Install Drivers
