Hey Folks,
I was into computers pretty heavily in high school (~9 years ago), so I have an 'old school' knowledge of hardware dealings, but have out of the picture since then, so I'm a bit out of the loop. Right now, I'm having some trouble with my current comp and I'm looking for any suggestions anyone would have.
A few weeks ago my computer froze while I was playing a game and I was forced to hard-boot it. It started right back up, but then froze again a couple hours later, and repeated that scenario a few times. I figured the video card or processor were overheating so I took them both out (applied a new coat of thermal paste on the processor, checked so see how hot the video card was running etc). The computer ran fine for about 6 hours then froze again when left on overnight.
After that I took everything out. I checked to see if any part of the power supply was fried, switched the ram around, redid all the connections. Again the computer started up but again, after maybe three hours froze and now it won't start at all. Before, my power button would glow green with several beeps going off like it was making an attempt to boot, but now when it I turn it on the power button stays orange and the only thing that happens is my case fan starts making a lot of noise (no idea on that).
My limited knowledge would suggest that this is either a motherboard or processor or maybe even still a power supply issue, but any suggestions anyone has would be greatly appreciated. I'm currently at work so I can't post the specs off the top of my head, but the computer is getting somewhat old (~3 years).
Thanks,
Katfish
