Default settings prior to driver installation on a 7600gs

Hi all,

I’m REALLY concerned about installing a new video card I just bought. I want to move from an XFX Nvidia 5700Le to a Gigabyte 7600gs on an agp system. I only have a ViewSonic LG175.
Right now I understand the basic steps are:
Remove the old drivers
Install the card
Turn it back on and install the new drivers.

My biggest concern, by far, is what will happen to the display characteristics before I get a chance to install the new drivers. If the display defaults to something very low with the new card, I’m done for, since the display doesn’t support low-res in any meaningful way. On the other hand, if the new 7600gs defaults on its own or if Windows defaults to something readable, I’m okay.

Is this a valid concern?

From my experience, after uninstalling some drivers, when booting back into windows, the resolution is still the same, but everyhting is really choppy, when the drivers are installed, it seems to be the case that when you boot up, your resolution is something like 800x600, which is a very bad resolution and looks awfull on alot of monitors, it does on mine anyway, once in windows after re installing your drivers, just let everyhting load up, your display may flicker, this should be normal, then after just go into display properties and select your prefered screen resolution :)

The above is exatly what i did, but i have an ATi card, i used to have a Nvidia 5200, and i think everyhting went the same.

Either way, when the graphics drivers are uninstalled, its not a nice experience at all, once the drivers are reinstalled, everything is good again :), just can be an inconvinience if you have lots of desktop icons like me :p, thats why when i just re installed drivers and botted up, i logg into my dads account as there is few icons and my desktop wont be affects.

So you're say 800*600 is the lowest you've experienced? I know I can at least open and work with the screen settings menu here, so that should be okay...hopefully.

Sounds like I need to hold my breath and roll the dice... I'm just dreading the thought of having to bring it to something like CompUSA and letting some guy gouge my wallet to "fix" my computer.
 
800*600 is the lowest i have experienced, for some reason once it was lower,i think that was safe mode though :)

Uh oh dont go to a shop to get it fixed, its a rip off :p, if you have another computer you can get internet access with, come back to Hardware forums, we can guide you through the steps, and more importantly, you will learn something :), and alot of things are alot easier than they seem to be :)
 
Okay, I'm going to give this a whirl in about a week (won't have PC access till then). I'll let you know how it goes.
