Is there a way to force Direct3d games to use 16bit textures instead of the desktop settings ?

In the nvidia control panel there's that option for OpenGL but not for Direct3d.

You should be able to set that option in each game in the video settings, regardless of the desktop resolution or color depth. That's what I do anyway.

In some games I can't, like Nhl 2003 for instance.
It's ok, it's not a big deal anyway.

You might check out some video card tweakers. I'm using Riva Tuner, but it's an older version and they may have added some more features in the newer versions.
The one program that might have the tweak your looking for is the GeForce Tweak Utility. Be careful though, as messing with settings you don't know about can mess up the performance. It has a ton of tweaks, and might have what you want. Plus, it's free. :)
I don't have a link ATM, but searching Google should bring it up quickly.

    Great, that's what I needed.

Would you know which one of the two is the best ?
More people seem to have Riva tuner, but then again, most enthusiasts have an ati so having the GeForce utility would be useless for them !

Also, do you know a good OpenGL benchmark ?
I have already used GL Excess, but some settings seem to have no effect whatsoever on the score.

ok, I learnt something new : Riva Tuner is for nvidia graphic cards :good:

In any case, I downloaded The GeForce Tweak utility.

There are tons of options indeed !
I'll go through all of them, make tests and see which ones I should enable.

VulpineGL is another openGL benchmark. It will slap your system silly.

I'm sorry but what does "slap your system silly" mean ?

I guess it means that it will stress it like I've never seen it before ?

Yup. More along the lines of the video card, however, since that's it's primary focus. It's pretty intese, but it's cool to watch. It does take a long time to load though...
